Life with Four Feline “Helpers”
(A Not-So-Productive Guide to Living with Bunty, Babli, Mini and Prince Goldie)
Life with cats is unpredictable.
Sometimes, these regal creatures perch on window sills like furry philosophers, gazing into infinity as if contemplating the mysteries of the universe. Other times, they transform into full-blown chaos coordinators — throwing themselves into everything you do.
My four — Bunty, Babli, Mini, and Prince Goldie — definitely fall into the second category.
They are convinced that every household task requires their personal supervision. Laundry, cooking, cleaning, working from home — you name it, they’re involved. They’re like tiny, whiskered assistants with zero efficiency but endless enthusiasm. And though they don’t save me time, they turn every chore into a full-fledged comedy routine.
Here’s a glimpse into what it’s like to live with cats who insist on helping.
Laundry Day: The Cat Hair Quality Inspectors
Laundry used to be simple — load, wash, dry, fold, done.
That was before these four moved in.
The moment the warm clothes come out of the dryer, they swoop in like hawks. Folding? Forget it. They plop down right in the middle of the pile, kneading with such focus and joy that I actually feel guilty for interrupting.
No matter how clean my clothes are, they always end up with an extra layer of “cat glitter” — the kind of decorative fur that never truly washes off.
And then there are the socks. One by one, they vanish — each claimed and stashed by a different cat. I’ve found socks in the sofa, the bookshelf, the shoe rack, even the bathtub. Laundry, once a mundane task, has now become an ongoing battle between me, four determined felines, and a mountain of clothes.
Cooking: The Reluctant Sous Chefs
The kitchen is clearly their kingdom.
Whenever I chop vegetables, they perch on the counter like tiny, judgmental chefs — watching every move with the intensity of Gordon Ramsay. If onions are involved, they paw at the pan as though ready to take over plating duties.
Cooking has become a delicate balancing act between not burning dinner and preventing them from face-planting into the skillet.
Working: The Keyboard Warriors
Working from home? With cats? Impossible.
Nothing screams productivity like a cat sprawled across your keyboard. Bunty, Babli, Mini, and Prince Goldie take turns “helping” by sending half-written emails, deleting crucial files, or launching random web searches.
During Zoom calls, they’re regular stars — strolling across the camera mid-meeting or showing their tails to senior management. My colleagues don’t even blink anymore; they simply greet whoever happens to be sitting on the keyboard that day.
Cleaning: The Mischief Managers
Cleaning with cats is… well, counterproductive.
Making the bed turns into a battlefield — all four hide under the sheets, pouncing on my hands like I’m the enemy. Dusting becomes a group project, with the cats following me from room to room, knocking down every object I just straightened.
By the end, I’m exhausted, the house is somehow messier than before, and the cats look immensely satisfied.
The Truth About My Helpers
Yes, it’s chaotic. Yes, it’s inconvenient. And yes, my productivity has completely vanished.
But I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Their “help” might slow me down, but it fills my day with laughter. They turn dull chores into moments of pure joy — a nudge here, a purr there, a dramatic tumble across the laundry pile.
Life with cat helpers is messy, loud, and completely unpredictable — but it’s also full of love, warmth, and stories that never end.
After all, the real lesson of living with cats isn’t about getting things done.
It’s about learning that sometimes, the best kind of help is the one that makes you smile — even as you rewash the same load of laundry for the third time.
